How We Help with the Essay Portion of the CA Bar Exam

Since 2010, CA Bar Style Founder and Head Tutor Shana Karpeles, Esq. has been helping CA Bar Exam Applicants improve on the Writing Portion of the CA Bar Exam.  Our approach to writing for the CA Bar Exam is simple and focused and teaches applicants how to maximize their points through strategy and approach.

The following is CA Bar Style’s Strategy to preparing well for the Essay Portion of the CA Bar Exam:

Focused Law Review

Most CA Bar Exam Applicants spend way too much time reading hundreds of pages of materials, without focusing on what actually gets tested on the essay portion of the CA Bar Exam. CA Bar Style’s materials, lectures and schedule will guide you on exactly what to focus on, so you are not overwhelmed and left confused on what actually gets tested on the essays.

Essay Approach

CA Bar Style has over 40 detailed, organized and clear Essay Approaches on how to write for EVERY possible type of question asked on the Essay Portion of the exam.  The Essay Approaches are taught exclusively by Writing Expert Shana Karpeles where she will walk you through exactly what issues to write down in given tested areas, how to analyze those issues, what your rule statements will look like and when to give a counter-argument or get quickly out of the issue.  Timing considerations and structure are highlighted as well.

Writing Practice and Grading

Once you have learned the law and approach for a given subject, you will practice strategically picked essays to write and submit for grading. CA Bar Style has high grading standards, that exceed even the expectations of the real Bar Graders for the CA Bar Examination. Our grading feedback is thorough and very detailed, with a goal in mind that a reviewing applicant will understand exactly where he or she lost points, what went wrong and how to improve it.

Tutoring and Coaching

The final step is included in both the Premier and Elite Packages (not included in the Essential Package). This personalized final step takes the grader feedback to the next level. Ms. Karpeles will go over all the Grader’s Feedback on your written submissions and look at the big picture of how you are doing on your essay practice and where overall you are losing the most points.  Specifically, Ms. Karpeles will assess your writing and will point out areas of law that need improvement or more understanding, more practice in a given area, re-writes of submissions, re-review of certain essay approaches, guidance on timing, structure problems, analysis coaching and tutoring, scheduling problems and work/preparation balance.
